Student Internship

Prior to internship start date, there must be an established affiliate agreement between Highline and the college/university program. Please check below for the current partner universities. If your university is not listed, please contact the Retention & Recruitment Team to begin the institutional agreement process.

Note: Institutional Agreements take at least 6 weeks to establish.

Our district prioritizes student internship candidates who match our commitment to becoming an anti-racist school district. As a part of this vetting process, all intern candidates are required to complete an internship application. Completed applications are screened and reviewed by Human Resources on an ongoing basis. Accepted applicants will be pre-approved for a placement match. Please note pre-approval does not guarantee placement in our district. 22-23 SY Student Internship application

Placement match process seeks to match pre-approved student intern candidates with qualified Cooperating Mentors. Pre-approved intern candidates will be contacted for an informal meet-and-greet to connect with a potential the Cooperating Mentor. If both the Student Intern candidate and the Cooperating Mentor would like to move forward, HR will be able to assist in finalizing the placement. Finalization of placement requires building administrator support.

Placement Finalization letter will be provided for successful placements, and onboarding information for interns will be provided.

As a part of your internship here at HPS, you’ll be invited to participate in the Student Intern Academy. This will be a space for student interns throughout the district to connect with each other, as well as to hear from guest speakers.

Cadre Early Hiring Program

Highline Public Schools' Cadre Early Hiring Program is designed to allow early contracts to be extended to certificated staff in key hard-to-fill areas, while also allowing our recruitment team to recommend site-specific "matches". Cadre hires are those that we believe could be successfully placed across our district, in a variety of our schools, programs and communities.

HPS Student Interns are invited to participate in the Cadre Early Hiring Program through site-based interviews. Student Intern's interview will be scheduled at the intern's current building, allowing them to engage with their current building administrators.

Current Highline employees seeking student internship placement must apply for an unpaid leave based on field experience requirements. Requests for leave must be approved by your building administrator. Please do connect with your current supervisor about your plans to pursue student internship placement, if you have not done so already.
