School Counselor: Secondary Reengagement

Highline Public Schools is seeking a School Counselor to join our Student Support & Family Engagement team for the 2022-2023 school year! The reengagement counselor focuses on reengaging youth who need an alternate pathway to support their academic progress. The reengagement counselor works to identify reasons for disengaging or leaving school, assesses educational levels (including credit history), and gathers information about non-academic needs relevant to student success. The reengagement counselor helps students to explore alternative options to meet their academic and career goals while developing a plan that meets their individual needs and alleviates barriers to success. The reengagement counselor collaborates with district staff, community organizations and partners, and youth and families for the purposes of an informed referral process.

School Counselor - Secondary (Reengagement)


  • MA degree with valid WA State ESA Counseling Certification
  • Preferred Qualifications: Two years of teaching and/or counseling experience including experience counseling students in crisis; anger management; and other social skills.


$59,584 - $117,306

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Develop classroom activities/presentations and curriculum in order to:
    • Implement guidance activities for class use
    • Teach students personal/social skills and health
    • Guide students in academic planning
    • Lead students in career exploration
  • Consult and collaborate with families, teachers, other educators, and community organizations for the purpose of creating and understanding and/or awareness in the following:
    • The student’s person, social, and educational developmental needs
    • The student’s abilities, challenges, and progress in school
    • Additional information to further enhance parent/child relationships
    • How to support their student’s educational development at home
