SUMMARY: The Data Science Specialist provides leadership and direction in collaboration with the Data and Assessment Team to analyze and interpret data. This position will be under the direct supervision of the Executive Director of Teaching, Learning and Leadership. The manager will assist with program-based data projects, development and implementation of a districtwide data design process and system and works as a collaborator across multiple departments.
CONTEXT AND MISSION: Highline Public Schools serves approximately 19,000 students in the communities of Burien, Des Moines, Normandy Park, SeaTac, and White Center in Washington State. In 2013, parents, students, community members, and staff at all levels of the district came together to develop a strategic plan that reflects our goals and dreams for our students. The plan was updated in 2018 to guide our work through 2023. The plan’s promise is that every student in Highline Public Schools is known by name, strength, and need, and graduates prepared for the future they choose. The strategic plan is centered on Our Promise. It includes five big goals for Highline students, supported by Our Foundation. * Equity. We will disrupt institutional biases and end inequitable practices so all students have an equal chance at success. * Instruction. We will reduce achievement and opportunity gaps by using culturally responsive, inclusive, standards-based instruction. * Relationships. We will know our students by name, strength and need and have open, two-way communication with students, families and community partners. * Support. We will increase student success by supporting their social-emotional and academic needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. * Interpret and analyze data systems across Highline Public Schools. * Explore problems that need to be solved within the system. * Will support the work that takes place after collection of data by guiding constituents in synthesis, analysis and interpretation of results. * Provides leadership in gathering and sharing up-to -date knowledge around best practices of building a data literate rich culture of learning. * In partnership with the Executive Director of Teaching, Learning and Leadership and Data Analyst Team co-develop a vision and design system using the architecture developed by Data Design Work Groups. * Design a system to provide school teams with training around data analysis structures utilizing the current and future tools of our data systems. * Skills in managing, training, leading and motivating school and district teams around data analysis. * Collaborate with other district administrators in program-based data analysis to inform future data design processes and additions to the architecture of the data system.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION: Education and Experience Master’s degree in Education or a related service or management field Five years of leadership experience in the data, education or management field.
