Additional Information: This 1.0 GLEA position will be located .5 at White Center Heights Elementary
and .5 at Mt. View Elementary. The selected individual:
Will work with children and their families Birth-3 yrs;
Will be responsible for communicating with various stakeholders including
community partners and district admin
Is responsible for planning, coordinating, and facilitating, events for GLEA
Preferred: Knowledge of early childhood development necessary, experience in
family engagement, bilingual language skills

SUMMARY:
The family liaison serves as a bridge between the school/school district and students’ family. This position works with schools and families to develop a welcoming climate in the schools, develops and leads family engagement strategies and activities. The position collaborates with school administration and staff as well as families to identify and develop family engagement strategies that promote student academic success. The family liaison supports growth and learning around family engagement best practices to school staff and families.

CONTEXT AND MISSION:
Highline Public Schools serves approximately 19,000 students in the communities of Burien, Des Moines, Normandy Park, SeaTac, and White Center in Washington State. In 2013, parents, students, community members, and staff at all levels of the district came together to develop a strategic plan that reflects our goals and dreams for our students. The plan was updated in 2018 to guide our work through 2023. The plan’s promise is that every student in Highline Public Schools is known by name, strength, and need, and graduates prepared for the future they choose. The strategic plan is centered on Our Promise. It includes five big goals for Highline students, supported by Our Foundation. * Equity. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. * Collaborates with school and district staff to develop and implement family engagement strategies and programming. * Implement district and community partnership strategies to engage minority and immigrant families. * Builds capacity of staff and families to partner for student success. * Assist community-based organizations with district-level family engagement work. * Serves as a liaison between the school and school district, the student's family, and the community. * Attends and supports community meetings and family engagement activities. * Collaborates and problem solves with staff working with families and the bilingual community. * Monitor, track and report on schools’ family engagement efforts. * Perform occasional evening and weekend work to extend service to families. * Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
AA degree or High school diploma (or equivalent) and 72 college credits or High school diploma (or equivalent) and at least 5 years of experience in family/community engagement



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience working with diverse families Understanding of United States educational system Bilingual TESTING REQUIREMENT: Score of "Intermediate-High" or higher on the Oral Proficiency Interview in the target language, based on the ACTFL standards
