JOB TITLE:
TEACHER - MIDDLE SCHOOL SUMMER SESSION

SUMMARY:
Highline Public Schools is hosting a three week Middle School Summer Session for incoming 7th and 8th grade students. The Summer Session is invite only and will maintain the summer camp style of previous years. New this year is a focus on supporting students with ELA and Math skill development & engagement strategies through hands on activities & interactive curriculum. In addition, students will participate in social emotional skill development and college and career exploration workshops. This is a great way for teachers to build relationships with students as they prepare for a new school year. ELA: The ELA curriculum is a curriculum developed by the Wing Luke Museum EXPLORE: The "Explore" class is where the students will explore college and career as well as their social emotional skill development.

Highline Public Schools serves approximately 19,000 students in the communities of Burien, Des Moines, Normandy Park, SeaTac, and White Center in Washington State. In 2013, parents, students, community members, and staff at all levels of the district came together to develop a strategic plan that reflects our goals and dreams for our students. The plan was updated in 2018 to guide our work through 2023. JOB DESCRIPTION:
TEACHER - MIDDLE SCHOOL SUMMER SESSION * Instruction. We will reduce achievement and opportunity gaps by using culturally responsive, inclusive, standards-based instruction. * Relationships. We will know our students by name, strength and need and have open, two-way communication with students, families and community partners. * Support. We will increase student success by supporting their social-emotional and academic needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. * MS Summer Session Teachers will provide students with targeted and differentiated ELA and Math instruction in an engaging and exciting summer learning environment. Curriculum will be provided. * Pre and post tests will be given the first and last day of program. * The MS Summer Session Teacher will teach three 60-minute classes of curriculum each day and support one field trip each week. The teacher will work 5 hours daily, 15-25 hours per week for three weeks. The teacher will be paid for up to 20 hours of preparation and planning prior to the start of Summer Session, including one mandatory prep-day on-site the week before program starts, date TBD. Other Functions * Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit and supporting student learning objectives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Certificated teacher Familiarity with GEAR UP and college and career access Experience working within the Highline Public Schools community

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with prior GEAR UP Summer Sessions

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:
